ALDERNEY and Malta have signed a memorandum of understanding to bring the islands' e-gaming regulators closer together.

The islands have been in discussions for some time and said that the agreement would 'set new standards in the setting up of business-friendly environments'.

It will mean that operators will be able to provide services from one island into another without the expense of deploying equipment in each jurisdiction.

Robin Le Prevost, Alderney's director of e-commerce development, said that the agreement had been driven by technology and was a recognition that the world is changing.

'The role of the offshore jurisdictions is evolving very quickly because of the rise in point of consumption taxation and regulation, new technologies such as cloud computing and the need for strong regulatory oversight,' he said.
