Tony Creasey moves upstairs to become chairman of the board while younger brother Peter takes over as MD. Tony is not retiring from the family business he has served since 1975, becoming managing director 25 years ago, but he will step back from daily activity.

'I will still be involved in the business but perhaps not on a day-to-day basis quite so much,' he said.

'I'm certainly not ready to retire and, with a family business like ours, you never really do retire. This is a sensible move to succession planning that will allow others to develop their roles and also allow me to spend more time with family members here and in Australia.

'We work well together as a family and will continue to make strategic decisions for the business alongside our strong management team.'

Tony's son, Jonathan, is the fifth generation to be involved in the company, which has seen significant growth under his father's leadership including the development of the Marks & Spencer franchise, the acquisition of the former Woolworth's building and, last year, the redevelopment of the firm's shop in Smith Street.

'Business cannot stand still and it is certain that, with Peter taking over the managing director's seat, Creasey's will continue to develop as opportunity presents itself,' said Tony.
