Potting Shed targets Disney for 2016 creative symposium

Following the success of this year's symposium, organisers have wasted no time in getting preparations under way for 2016 and are in talks to secure household names to speak at future events.

Jay Aylmer, managing director of The Potting Shed, which organised the symposium that featured three world-class speakers, said he hoped to secure a speaker from Disney Pixar to speak at Learn Create Produce 2016. He also hinted that he would like to include the gaming community.

'This time around we are going for big name brands and global names,' he said.

'We are going to have four speakers and there will be more diversity. It will also be pan-island again.'

The theme of Learn Create Produce 2015 was collaboration and featured globally renowned speakers Christos Passas, an associate director at the architect firm Zaha Hadid, artist Joachim Sauter and designer Stefan Sagmeister. Mr Aylmer said that the theme of collaboration had been picked up by the local creative community.

'As a result of the last event, the community is coming together and we're having lots of great suggestions.

'These collaborations are starting to happen and are evolving further than they did in 2015.

'We have had some great discussions in the photography and art world.

'We understand that it's going to be a tall order to better this year.'

Education is a key feature of Learn Create Produce and Mr Aylmer said he had been delighted with the input from College of Further Education students at the Guernsey event.

'A key goal for us has been education of the sector but also the next generation of creatives.

'To see the support from the College of Further Education and its students was absolutely incredible. We were blown away by their input.'
