Business picks up for Herm after slow start
Chief executive Jonathan Watson said other issues, such as poor weather earlier in the season and the cost of travel, had contributed to the slow start, but the start of the school holidays and sunnier skies had seen a boost in visitor numbers.
'The season for us started very early because Easter was early and we tend to open to accommodate that, but that diluted our business to a certain extent,' he said.
'At Easter the British school holidays were different to Guernsey's Easter holidays.
'We did consider that might be a real opportunity, but people in Guernsey chose to go further because they had those two weeks,' he said.
'The weather in March, April, May and early June wasn't particularly friendly, however, June was a strong month for us and now it's really coming through very strongly.'
He said that despite numbers picking up, there is still some availability during the school holidays.
'Although our accommodation is strong, there are always gaps to fill and it's often worth giving us a call to see what is available, particularly for the campsite in August.'
