Governance professionals 'fulfil an essential role'
GOVERNANCE professionals play a vital role in preserving Guernsey's global reputation as a leading international finance centre, according to the president of the local branch of ICSA, the Governance Institute.
Sara Bourne was speaking at the institute's annual dinner and first awards ceremony.
'Governance professionals fulfil an essential role, protecting assets and helping organisations and individuals meet their financial goals.
'The importance of this vital role cannot be stressed enough,' she said.
'Working as a governance professional requires skill and knowledge as the finance industry can be a complicated beast.
'With ethical behaviour a must, the governance frameworks that they create must allow companies to navigate the regulatory and legal hurdles in the most efficient and moral way possible.
'Guernsey's international standing as a safe place to do business is reliant on transparency and accountability, and governance professionals make sure that this is possible.
'They have in-depth knowledge of Guernsey's sophisticated system of capturing ownership information and are well versed in the various global standards of practice that companies in Guernsey and other jurisdictions need to meet.'
