The appointment comes amid global expansion and a recent rebrand of the business. Formerly SGG Group, the firm gained a presence in Guernsey in 2018 following its acquisitions of First Names Group and Augentius.

The legacy teams, now united as IQ-EQ, work across two offices in St Peter Port and St Martin’s, with a total of 120 staff in the jurisdiction.

Mr McLaren, who has been with the group since 2014, moves from the position of client services director to his new role. He has 30 years of experience in the fiduciary industry and is a passionate promoter of Guernsey as a leading international financial centre – working closely with promotional agency Guernsey Finance.

‘These are exciting times for IQ-EQ and I am delighted to be given this opportunity,’ he said. ‘Private wealth is seeing strong organic growth in Guernsey as well as ever-increasing opportunities through both our international offices and our corporate and fund administration service lines. I strongly believe we have some of the best team members to develop these opportunities.”

David Preston, managing director of IQ-EQ Guernsey, said his newly promoted colleague was a huge asset to the business.

‘Guernsey is set to play an important role in the group’s future strategy so I look forward to working closely with Alasdair and the rest of the local leadership team to maximise our potential,’ he added.
