It’s a simple but powerful accolade, but that is what Laura Simpson said about Samantha Nicholls and is why she put her name forward for the Moonpig-sponsored Arts Contribution of the Year award.

‘She is a highly dedicated teacher who always gets the best out of her pupils, be they five or 85 years old,’ continued Laura.

As a performer, Samantha has represented the island for 10 years as a member of the BBC Singers at the Proms.

She also sings and performs with numerous and diverse local ensembles and groups including choir The Accidentals, the School of Popular Music and with her husband in the rock ‘n’ roll outfit Matt Bonneville and the Cage Shakers.

She has also played with the Guernsey Jazz Orchestra and Ernie and the Ormers.

‘Perhaps her most outstanding contribution is that of musical director of the Singing for Health choir at Styx, where she helps those with respiratory conditions discover the joy and health benefits of singing.

‘On top of all that, she’s encouraging.’
