Pride of Guernsey: Ann and Reg Atkin
THE story word count is not enough to describe how wonderful Ann and Reg Atkin are as grandparents, according to their daughter.
Nicky Ajanaku nominated them for the Channel Islands Co-operative Society-sponsored Grandparent/s of the Year award. She said she and husband Sunny were proud to call them family.
The Ajanakus have three children – daughter Ilori, 6, and boy and girl twins Kayo and Zaria, 3.
‘These grandparents are simply amazing and we would be lost without them,’ said Mrs Ajanaku.
‘I suffer with my health at times, causing hospitalisation, and we can count on them every time. My mum will pick Kayo and Zaria up from nursery while grandad waits at the bus stop for Ilori to finish school.
‘My mum has recently retired following 32 years of working with Specsavers and while she should be enjoying her retirement and relaxing, she has stepped up once again.
‘Nothing seems to faze them and they take the view that we are family and its what we do.’
