The rangers are both volunteers and special constables who patrol the commons in order to make it a cleaner and better place for islanders to enjoy.

‘Not only do they help tackle dog fouling, but they are also there to monitor incidents of overzealous cycling on footpaths where the speed is limited to 10mph,’ the nominator said.

The group of rangers started out last year with six members, with the aim of providing assistance and guidance when necessary, but has since grown in size.

‘They are all volunteers who give up their time to do this, they should be recognised for that.’
