The Community Twilight and Night Nursing and Social Care Team have received an anonymous nomination for the Ravenscroft-backed award.

‘The most important thing amongst this very special team of people is their commitment to each other as colleagues and friends,’ said the nominator.

They help each other in a number of ways, they added.

Staff are constantly learning through taking vocational qualifications and earning care certificates, and these need witness statements to back up observed practical work, which colleagues are always ready to provide.

‘Like many other work places we have our share of personal problems and the great quality about this group of people is they look out for each other, they assist by covering each other’s shifts at short notice to be supportive, and they are there to lend a shoulder to cry on in and out of work.’

By caring for the carers, the patients receive better care, added the nominator.

‘Their generosity is amazing. They help out with fundraising with various projects such as sponsoring Mary’s Meals in Malawi, and raising money through in-house raffles.’ There is a monthly bonus ball event to raise funds for local charities, as well as an annual cake sale for Children in Need.

Coping with the weather can be a challenging part of community nursing and with the help of Civil Protection volunteers the Twilight team helps clients with complex needs or those who have nobody else to care for them.

‘No one is ever missed who is expecting a visit and we try not to let anything stand in our way.’
