Student India Harris nominated the St Sampson’s High School IT teacher for the award and said: ‘She is such an amazing and caring teacher.

‘If it wasn’t for her, I would not have been given a second chance to turn myself around and I wouldn’t have made it past the school gates.’

India said Ms Howe has boosted her confidence and makes her feel like she can achieve something.

‘She has personally impacted on me in many ways, she taught me never to give up – even when I feel like I am never going to make it.

‘I wouldn’t be sitting my GCSEs without her and I wouldn’t have come as far as I have,’ she said.

Ms Howe makes the lessons more enjoyable by giving everybody a fair say and is very involved in what she teaches.

Not only has she had a personal impact on one student, India said her peers get on well with Ms Lowe as well.

‘She’s so helpful if any of us need her – and she’s always up for a laugh.’
