When Nick Brown suffered a cardiac arrest while out cycling, he did so within a few yards of the homes of not one but three nurses, who rushed to his aid.

As a result, Mr Brown has put forward Sue Black, Sue Lesbirel and Kim Leggett for the Ravenscroft-sponsored award.

Mr Brown said he was near Saumarez Park with a group of friends when he was suddenly taken ill.

Fortunately, all three of the nurses living nearby were at home: ‘They came instantly to my aid, carrying out CPR whilst my friends and other passers-by called for an ambulance, which arrived within 10 minutes,’ said Mr Brown.

‘During that time Sue, Sue and Kim literally kept me alive.’

He later discovered the ‘sobering statistics’ on an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest – there is about a 10% chance of survival.

‘Doctors who treated me later were in no doubt that the speed with which I was helped and the excellent CPR I received was critical to my survival,’ he said.

‘I owe my life to Sue, Sue and Kim who came to my aid that Sunday morning and who, through their nursing training and willingness to help, provided that critical care without a second thought.

‘Many people have commented “only in Guernsey” when they have heard this remarkable story and I am thankful to these three guardian angels that I am able to be in a position to nominate them as Angels of the Year.’
