‘Sian tried to end her life quite a few years ago, but after her rehabilitation she has worked through and overcome, through her art, complex mental health and self-esteem issues – and in doing so, she has helped other people too,’ explained the nominator, who wished to remain anonymous.

They went on to describe some of the various aspects of Sian’s work which they found particularly impressive.

‘Her project last summer, Notes to Islanders, where she put up signs around town with positive and inspirational messages, was a great symbol for the power of art and her new stuff up Mill Street, where she has worked alongside Guernsey Mind, continues this.

‘She also holds art classes in her studio and she is a fervent supporter of LGBTQ and mental health issues. So that is why I am nominating Sian Jones for the Arts Contribution of the Year Award. Because she is a star.’
