Nominator Jane Northrop described the unit as the island’s extra emergency service.

‘Civil Protection is made up of volunteers from all over the island.

‘They help out with public functions such as Liberation Day but they also give up time, at any time of day or night, to look for missing persons.’

Ms Northrop said they worked in all weathers on the coast roads when traffic needs to be handled due to storms and that they support the police when traffic or other incidents occur.

‘They give their time freely to train for any event, they are a great asset to Guernsey.’

The unit, funded, equipped and trained by the States of Guernsey under the guidance of the emergency planning and civil protection officers, are used regularly by the emergency services to support responses to incidents and events.
