‘When I was going through a hard time Mrs White went out of her way to help me and my kids,’ Mrs Baker said about the learning support assistant.

‘She would pick my kids up and take them to school and drop them back home again without ever asking for anything in return.’

Over the Christmas break, Mrs White invited the Baker family to Herm for three days to cheer them up.

‘I gained a friend in Mrs White and words cannot express how grateful we are – I have got so much respect for her both as a friend and as a teacher.’

Mrs White runs the nurture nursery for children before they start Reception and both of Mrs Baker’s sons were taught by her there.

‘They come home and say how much they like Mrs White and I know lots of other families who appreciate her generosity and support as well.

‘She has become part of our family and there’s not many people out there who would offer help and expect nothing in return.’

As a parent with no other family in the island, Mrs Baker found comfort in knowing her children were in good hands at school and knowing she had someone to turn to if needed.
