Teacher of the Year: Jim Cobb and Dave Le Page

Pride of Guernsey | Published:

AS LOCKDOWN saw many other professions work from home, two St Sampson’s High School supply teachers, Jim Cobb and Dave Le Page, still came in to school to help out.

In his nomination, 12-year- old Teyhan Anslow said as the son of a key worker he thought the two supply teachers deserved the HSBC-sponsored Teacher of the Year award for coming in ‘when they didn’t have to’.

He said they were both helpful and caring at a time when the island was at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic and going into school was such a strange and different experience.

‘When we were in lockdown and still going to school they took time to come in and look after us when they didn’t have to,’ he said.

‘They were extremely supportive teachers who were nice to everyone and always there for you when you needed their company.’

He added that his mum worked as a social worker assistant and coming into school at such a tumultuous time had been hard, but Mr Cobb, who looked after them, and Mr Le Page, who did cookery lessons, put them at ease.

‘They would do archery and swimming and catering with us and use their own money,’ Teyhan said.

‘I am very grateful for them for being there, they made our time in school really enjoyable and fun.’
