Mr Byrne said he found it hard to express how proud he was of their hard work.

‘In recent months it has been incredibly difficult for everyone and the team at the GSPCA have managed to ensure a 24/7 emergency service for the animals and community of Guernsey,’ he said.

‘There are so many stories of team members going over and above rescuing animals, from Pebbles the seal pup to over 1,300 other wild animals since the beginning of the year. Although many have found 2020 quiet or have stayed at home, the GSPCA have rescued more wild animals in the last eight months than in any year on record for the same period.

‘Despite lockdown the team have worked around the clock to ensure that the animal ambulance and services of the shelter to those in need have been available and continue to work on the front line in a wide variety of ways, from pet passport checks at the airport to boarding pets for owners rushed into hospital. The team daily display that they are emergency heroes and that they provide an essential and critical role within our community.’
