Amy McColl, 14, has been nominated for the Guernsey Gas-sponsored Neighbour of the Year award, and her neighbour Jayne Le Cras told us what a very, very kind heart she has.

Throughout lockdown, Ms McColl baked trifles, cookies, fairy cakes, meringue and scones which she delivered to her neighbours each week.

Mrs Le Cras said: ‘It was a lovely gesture to do what she did every weekend.’

Of the various items Ms McColl baked, Mrs Le Cras praised her lemon drizzle cupcakes especially.

‘Her lemon drizzle cake was absolutely delicious. I love M&S lemon drizzle but Amy’s were even nicer.’

As well as cooking for her neighbours each week, Ms McColl left notes which offered to run errands or help out with odd jobs.

‘Without a shadow of a doubt, if I needed her to walk our dog, Amy would’ve been here.’

Mrs Le Cras said that Ms McColl is ‘effervescent, always bubbly’, and thought Ms McColl’s kindness is even more impressive given her age.

‘Even though she is only 14, I think she shows a kindness and wisdom beyond her years.’

While lockdown is over, Ms McColl’s deliveries are not.

‘She always brightens your day. My husband and I look forward to it every week.’
