The Channel Islands Co-operative Society-sponsored award aims to recognise the pivotal role that grandparents have in today’s society, and say thank you to remind them that their work does not go unnoticed.

Sue was nominated by daughter-in-law Susie: ‘Sue never spoils them with gifts or material items as she gives them the best gifts through her knowledge, love, education and life skills, that they crave to learn from her.

‘My parents have sadly passed but I know Sue is doing a wonderful job at giving double the love and you can see it in their eyes when granny turns up.

‘She is granny to five grandchildren and she spreads the love equally and fairly and I am eternally grateful for the support she shows them on how to become good people in the future and now, and I am very proud to call her their granny.’

Mrs Bray has spent her entire life working with children as a pre-school teacher, nanny and professional babysitter, so she has a lot of experience in teaching children how to grow up into caring individuals.

Daughter-in-law Susie has seen the benefits of a close relationship between grandparent and grandchildren.

‘She’s very Guernsey proud, she tells the children a lot about the history of the island, she loves the sea and the beach and they all spend hours down the beach, and she’s very involved in all her grandchildren’s lives, especially now that the latest one has moved over. She’s very hands on and is a vital part of all of our families, she’s not sitting down and resting on her laurels.’
