Pride of Guernsey: Verona Tomlin
VERONA TOMLIN, headteacher at La Mare de Carteret High School, has been described as 'really friendly' in her nomination for the Teacher of the Year.
Mrs Tomlin has been teaching for 22 years and joined the school in 2012, moving up to become its headteacher in 2020.
‘She would go above and beyond to help people as well as making lessons fun,’ said her nominator, former pupil Megan Burgess, who studied science under Mrs Tomlin.
‘She helped me a lot. Instead of teaching us the facts she made us do activities.
‘She is a very special lady who deserves this award for a million reasons.’
Mrs Tomlin at first thought the nomination was a practical joke.
‘It’s a compliment to the school,’ she said.
‘This job is really challenging, every day is a different day. You never know what to expect.
‘It’s why you get out of bed in the morning.’
