She was nominated by Jess Torode, who praised Ms Tennant’s efforts as head of creative arts at St Sampson’s High, where she teaches music.

‘Not only does Sarah inspire the children in their lessons but she has an amazing extracurricular plan, where she and the other members of her team provide many opportunities for the children to learn and perform, from choirs to chamber strings to an all inclusive orchestra.’

Ms Torode also praised Sarah’s work with Stage Sound, an ensemble where past and present brass and wind-playing students and teachers are encouraged to come together to play music, and where they go out into the community to play and perform.

Ms Tennant described her teaching career.

‘I came to Guernsey in 2002 and started working at the old SSHS at Delancey. I went there as head of music and we’ve moved into the new Baubigny site.

‘During my time at SSHS we’ve built up a vibrant music department and created many opportunities for our students to perform and learn together. We have an extensive extracurricular programme which is inclusive for all children.

‘I try to give a lot of opportunities to the St Sampsons community which I feel very much a part of.’
