Bernie Le Gallais
BERNIE LE GALLAIS raised £2,500 to go towards cancer research when he had his hair and beard completely shaved off for the first time in 23 years earlier this year.
‘Bernie raised so much more than money for cancer research whilst having to go through the pain of having a loved one with that evil disease,’ said his nominator, Allan Reid.
‘He’d been growing his beard for I don’t know how many years – when it was all off, he looked 20 years younger.’
Mr Le Gallais also raised a whopping £17,500 for the RNLI last Christmas in a big raffle – his connection with the organisation having worked in the fishing industry since he was 14.
He said he was ‘a bit gobsmacked’ to be nominated. ‘You try and give back if you can,’ he said.
Mr Reid added: ‘He’s more than likely inspired so many people to do something for cancer research. Bernie is the pride of Guernsey in my eyes and heart.’
