‘What sets her apart is the way she can get the attention of other kids in a calm manner,’ said her nominator Liz Taylor-Kerr, who described Miss Whitby as ‘nurturing’.
‘She has a way of making students listen quietly and is always encouraging them to share their experiences.
‘She is very aware of every student and their individual talents and requirements.
‘The students love her.’
Miss Whitby, who has spent all 12 years of her teaching career at La Mare de Carteret Primary School, said she was ‘thrilled’ with the nomination.
‘It’s not just a job, it becomes part of you,’ she said.
‘It’s a pleasure to work with such amazing children.’
