Debbie started her career as a teaching assistant in Australia before moving to Guernsey and working as a volunteer LSA.

‘I’ve been at Hautes Capelles for over 10 years,' she said. 'My first job was in reception and I’ve worked my way up the year groups.’

Debbie has assisted the school’s collaborative effort with Island FM to work on a gardening club around the school, which aims at helping team building and learning new skills. She has also helped the school’s collaboration with Russels Day Centre so that the elderly people may receive cards from the children.

‘Mrs Wright is amazing and has helped me so much this year with my reading and writing,’ said her nominator, eight-year-old Edward.

Edward’s mum added: ‘Mrs Wright has put in so much extra time and care to all the children at Capelles Primary School, she has helped my son gain so much self-confidence and is a real asset to the school.’
