Pride of Guernsey: Diane Birch
DIANE BIRCH, teacher at St Sampson’s High School, has been nominated for Teacher of the Year, sponsored by Core Fund Services (Guernsey) Limited.
Mrs Birch described her time in Guernsey.
‘I came to Guernsey in 2011 and went straight to St Sampson’s as head of art.
‘One of the things about teaching here is that the island is so arty, the arts are really strong, people value them and the kids love them. The kids take pride in our work, we’ve got the end of year celebration display in reception with work from Years 7-11.
‘The thing about teaching art is that everyone has the ability to be an artist. The support you get from students is amazing.
‘It’s a great school to work at and there’s a strong ethos of looking out for each other. Any school that values art must be special.’
Nominator Jay Webber praised Mrs Birch’s teaching efforts.
‘Mrs Birch has been really inspiring to me and very kind and very skilled.’
Nominator Rachel Webber was also congratulatory.
‘My child blossomed under Mrs Birch.
‘Mrs Birch was very encouraging and gave praise to my child to encourage confidence in them.’
