‘He has emerged onto the arts scene this year,’ said his nominator Marc Winn.

‘His chalk art has been really brilliant. The recent example of the Island Games cycling being a good example.’

Ross had created an eye-catching five metre-tall cyclist using colourful chalks on a German pillbox for the Island Games which drew the attention of islanders.

‘His Facebook page Dad Makes Stuff shows all of the great work he has done this year.

‘He is also now organising a community chalk art festival which is brilliant.’

The chalk art event will be taking place on Saturday 12 August at Saumarez Park.

Marc’s favourite piece of Ross’ work is the 3D shark he made for Seafront Sunday on the Crown Pier.

Ross’ chalk art has also taken the form of Shere Khan, Mario Kart characters and Spongebob Squarepants to name a few.

He also makes sculptures in addition to the chalk art.

‘It’s well worth celebrating,’ Marc said. ‘He’s done it all off his own back. He’s making people smile.’

Ross was happily surprised by the nomination.

‘The one the kids love the most is the Mario one,’ he said. 'I stopped art when I was about 18.

'Hopefully at some point it’ll be my main income, that’s the dream.’
