Pride of Guernsey: Rachel Kemp
RACHEL KEMP has been nominated for the Teacher of the Year award.
Rachel has been teaching since 1995 and started at La Houguette in January.
‘My son’s teacher unfortunately became ill over the October half-term and when he returned after the break he had different teachers filling in,’ said her nominator Debbie Brouard.
‘My child unfortunately really struggles with change and sometimes having two different teachers a day was such a challenge for him.
‘However Mrs Kemp joined the team at La Houguette, filling in on a permanent basis, and my son settled down again.
‘Mrs Kemp has been absolutely amazing at supporting my son the best she can.
‘She has put things in place for him to be able to cope and has completely understood his little ways.
‘Mrs Kemp has not only been a great teacher for my son but also a massive support to myself.
'When we have had challenging times at home at weekends and holidays I would always send a quick dojo message to Mrs Kemp to keep her updated, and she would always message back with a positive, supportive message.
‘Without Mrs Kemp I’m not sure how we would have got through this school year.’
She even helped to set up a gardening club for children at the school.
I’m very humbled by the nomination but I’m just doing my job,’ Rachel said.
‘It’s a joy.’
