Steve has been a member of the Bowmen of Guernsey for 34 years, and has been teaching for the past 30. He has even coached archery in the Falkand Islands.

‘It is particularly satisfying when someone sticks with the sport and develops into a fine archer, representing Guernsey in an inter-insular, a county championship in Hampshire, or the Island Games,’ he said.

‘I am especially proud of my two nieces, Zoe and Lisa Gray, who I introduced to the sport 15 years ago and are now the top two lady archers in the island and won several Island Games medals.’

Nominator Wayne McKane said: ‘Steve runs the Bowmen of Guernsey Archery pretty much single-handedly, and since retiring he does even more from organising and running beginner courses to have-a-go sessions.

‘He was building new targets, stands and bosses from scratch in preparation for the Island Games. He organised the entire archery event for the Island Games. That in itself I think is worthy of the award.

‘If anyone needs a hand with their bow he will do his utmost to help out and even gives up his opportunity to shoot when any members are having issues. There is so much he does, I struggle to put it all into words.’
