Rachael is a talented willow weaver, creating her own designs from locally-grown willow down at Bordeaux, making baskets, wall hangings and plant supports in a carbon negative and sustainable way.

Rachael was shocked to find out that she had been nominated for a Pride of Guernsey award.

‘I have never considered myself an artist, so this is such a surprise for me,’ she said.

Rachael offers workshops for everyone wanting to learn the art of willow weaving, Rae’s Willowcraft.

‘I hold workshops for people so they can enjoy the process as much as I do,’ she said.

‘We’re all so proud of her, the business just took off,’ said her nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.

They were inspired by Rachael’s willow weaving, with all of this being achieved in 18 months. Rachael has dedicated her time and new found talent to willow weaving, bringing joy to herself and to others.

‘I was interested in it before, but when I started weaving myself, it just clicked,’ she said.

Finding willow weaving has transformed Rachael’s life in the best way possible.

‘It’s amazing she’s finally doing something she loves,’ they said.

Finding the art of willow weaving has completely turned Rachael’s life on its head, definitely for the better.

‘Her contribution to the arts has been incredible, as she has brought a traditional, sustainable craft back to Guernsey,’ her nominator said.
