‘Mark Guillou has probably been one of the biggest arts and music contributors of all time on the island,’ his nominator said who wishes to remain anonymous.

Not only is Mark a talented guitarist, but he has also taught over 10,000 students on the island and is one name of two behind the popular SarkFest.

‘I run it, do the sound and half of the organisation,’ said Mark.

‘It’s fantastic to be nominated.'

Since 1982 Mark has been professionally teaching guitar and has enjoyed watching every student grow in their confidence and musical skill.

‘He’s inspired everyone to follow their music dreams,’ his nominator said.

Mark has inspired students around the island including at St Sampson’s, Les Beaucamps and La Mare de Carteret schools.

Mark’s whole life is music, from doing his own gigs, teaching his students and helping his island grow in music, but, as his nominator said, ‘he never asks for any recognition for all the effort he’s put into the island'.

‘He has committed half of his life to the music scene in Guernsey and thousands of musicians he has taught, encouraged and believed in.’

Mark’s musical talent is incredible and his contribution to the island even more so, they went on to say.
