‘Liz is the fundraiser for Les Bourgs Hospice. She came up with the 30 Bays [in 30 Days] challenge which continues to grow annually, raising much-needed funds for the charity,’ said her nominator, Sue Ferreira.

‘She is so dedicated and her passion and energy are infectious. She’s just an amazing, tireless woman who puts everyone before herself.

‘Les Bourgs doesn’t receive States funding, but we’ve got a feeling that it’s ours. It’s the one place where it could be any one of us at any time, where everyone’s happy to put their hands in their pockets for them. It’s so close to home.’

Liz has been the fundraiser for Les Bourgs Hospice for three years, and describes it as her ‘dream job’.

‘Les Bourgs touches the lives of so many islanders,’ she said.

This year, in the 10th edition of 30 Bays in 30 Days, nearly 800 people signed up for the challenge, and at the time of writing, more than £16,500 has been raised for the hospice.

‘When we launched 30 Bays 10 years ago, not many were sea swimming the way they are now,’ said Liz.

‘Now it’s hard to go to a beach and not find people swimming.’

Liz has also been at the centre of extending the challenge to the other Channel Islands, with Jersey having its own 30 Bays in 30 Days and Alderney’s 5 Bays in 5 Days challenges.
