‘Alice came to the island just a year ago, but has managed to bring a new life into the Puffin & Oyster,’ said her nominator, Maria Chamberlain.

‘She made it from a place which was derelict to the best gastropub on the island – with excellent food, atmosphere and client service.

‘She’s managed to put together all the right people – the right chef, right staff, right food.

‘I’ve never seen anyone in hospitality who is always so positive all the time. The whole team are amazing.

‘Puffin & Oyster is open seven days a week, during daytime as well.

‘It has become a nice spot on the food map of the west coast for tourists, locals, families and dogs.

‘It’s a very friendly atmosphere.

'Of all the times I’ve been there, I’ve never ever experienced any kind of problem.

‘The pub celebrated one year open at the end of July and definitely deserves an award.’

Maria also highlighted how the Puffin & Oyster celebrated the Island Games by running a special breakfast during the cycling event as it went past the same road.

‘I came over to Guernsey to run my first pub,’ Alice said.

‘It’s all about the team. They all work so hard, lots of them are still here a year later which is really good.’
