Pride of Guernsey: Nina Mattinson
NINA MATTINSON has been nominated for the Sports Volunteer award.
Nina has a running group called Thirty Thursday where every Thursday at 6pm participants do a 30-minute run.
Nina started the group in 2019 with a handful of friends and it has now grown to nearly 200 members.
Her nominator said: ‘Nina turns up every week to organise and do warm-up and cool-down exercises. She rarely misses a week and if for some reason she does, she still posts reminders about the run, the meeting point and congratulates runners.
‘She undertook a course to enable her to coach us and give us the benefit of her expertise and keeps an app updated with all our emergency contact numbers.
‘Nina sorts out the routes – working out distances, alternative shorter loops, and usually somewhere for a drink at the end.
‘She has organised training plans and runs for those doing races such as the [Guernsey] half-marathon and relay teams for the marathon – complete with matching T-shirts.
‘She does all the admin and organising in her own time and is completely unselfish.
‘Nina is the glue that holds our group together – a fantastic organiser, motivator, coach and most importantly, a great friend.’
