‘Rachel Stevenson is a very outstanding social worker who is based in the UK for Health & Social Care’s off-island clients,’ said her nominator, Katherine Northey.

Rachel has been working as an off-island social worker for the past three years, finding placements for vulnerable people in the UK. Before that, she worked for 12 years with the States, primarily for the Oberlands Centre.

‘She goes the extra mile to stopping people from being homeless,’ Katherine said.

‘She never gives up finding care providers for her clients and she lets them know as appropriate if there’s any news and even phones some up for a chit-chat.

‘If there was a “Social Worker of the Year”, I would recommend she should be awarded the prize.’

Rachel, who was quite shocked with her nomination, and said that one of the best things about her job was ‘seeing the change in people’.

‘I’m trying to ensure that people have the best choices and the best opportunities,’ she said.
