Pride of Guernsey: Hilary Sarre
HILARY SARRE has been nominated for the Sports Volunteer award.
Hilary has been nominated for his service to Belgrave Wanderers Football Club. He has been involved with the club for 54 years.
His nominators, who wished to remain anonymous, said they have ‘never met anyone as committed to anything as he is to this football club’.
‘Whenever he has spare time, he is always down there, washing the football kits, cleaning the changing rooms and doing late nights on the bar.’
Hilary has also taken on bigger tasks within the club, such as painting the stands and maintaining the pitch.
‘Our all-weather pitch was a lot of responsibility for Hilary as he was involved in the decision to have it as well as now the cleaning up of it to make sure everyone is able to play there.’
One of his nominators said: ‘He is the most dedicated sportsman anyone could ever meet.’
‘He has been outstanding to the community and made them even more aware of how we should treat our community with all the work he continues to do.’
