‘Peter has recently stopped due to health reasons, however, he has been a volunteer driver for the Voluntary Transport Service for over 12 years – he started in 2011,’ said his nominator, Fiona Creed.

‘He’s a loss to our service because he had such a great bond with his passengers. He’d take you if you were happy or crying, he’d listen to you.

‘I wish I could give you the figure for 12 years but in the last year alone Peter helped our passengers get to 701 appointments. This is in one year.

‘The Voluntary Transport Service coordinates 33 volunteer drivers to take our 351 registered passengers to medical and wellbeing appointments without charge,’ Fiona explained.

‘Last year we booked 8,820 journeys. All of our passengers are people in need of support. Peter’s contribution to the community over the past 12 years has been life-changing for some of these people.

‘I would like to also mention Peter turns 81 this year.’
