‘My nan has been one of my biggest supporters, she was always at every single one of my sporting matches when I was at Beaucamps High School and would never not turn up. Even if she didn’t feel well, she would still be there,’ said her nominator, Leanne Sarre, 16.

‘She made my prom the most memorable night for me by allowing me to have an after-prom at the Belgrave Wanderers’ club. Firsy she said no, but she wanted me to enjoy myself so said yes, and I truly did have the most enjoyable and memorable night – never to be forgotten.

‘My nan does a lot, not just for us kids but for everyone around her. She has been a volunteer for St John for most of her life and the commitment to St John that she has is phenomenal. She’s taken part in parades, flag days, Liberation Day parades – the whole lot, even if she finds it tiring, she still took part in whatever way she could.

‘We grandchildren are my nan’s world and to us she is our world.

‘I love her with all my heart and not only that but I am extremely proud of her for everything she has overcome and for everything she has pushed past that life has chosen to throw at her – she is the strongest, bravest, toughest woman I have ever met, nothing can break her down at all.’
