The Russels Day Centre is a long-running social club for the elderly and vulnerable. The staff are all volunteers except for management. Together, they provide bathing services, three-course meals, entertainment, activities, manicures, hairstyling and so much more.

‘Russels Day Centre is a fun place to go and you always get a laugh according to my mum Esther,’ said Ellen Hughes, on behalf of the Le Friec family.

‘They have a lovely meal plus entertainment. Something is always going on to make the day interesting. All the helpers go out of their way to make it a pleasant day out.

‘The elderly need to be looked after. At first my mum was nervous about going, but they’re so welcoming – my mum loves it now and goes three times a week. Instead of sitting at home, reminiscing, she now has other things going on to pass the time.’

‘We couldn’t operate without an incredible team of volunteers,’ said Denise Cohu, the manager of the centre.
