The 11 volunteers on the Sark community first responder team are there for everyone on the island, day or night, to help anyone who is in need.

‘It is completely unpaid and voluntary,’ said Anthony Beaumont, one of their nominators.

With two young children, another nominator, who prefers to remain anonymous feels a big reassurance ‘to know if we needed help there’s a reliable group that will help.’

Putting themselves in harm’s way and training in their own time, they are a great team of people that let the community of Sark know they are safe and supported.

‘It’s great to be recognised for our service,’ said Sam La Trobe-Bateman, leader of the community first responders.

The first responders team has been in operation for the past three years.

Helping people and giving back to the community is the most rewarding, Sam said.

‘The way they deal with people they know while keeping a professional manner is what stands out,’ one of their nominators said.

‘They don’t know how incredibly valued they are,’ said Anthony.

The team on Sark genuinely cares about the community with one of them always being on call to attend the scene.
