Pride of Guernsey: Guernsey Youth Orchestra, Youth Choir and Concert Wind Band
THE Guernsey Music Centre with the Guernsey Youth Orchestra, Youth Choir and Concert Wind Band have been nominated for the Young Achiever of the Year award.
The Youth Orchestra, Youth Choir and Concert Wind Band have recently become great advocates for the island through a trip to Biberach, Germany.
‘They all were the very best ambassadors Guernsey could send,’ said Helga Reiser, their nominator.
Performing incredible concerts and sharing the amazing talent found in Guernsey, the Guernsey Music Centre has been active in the island for 40 years.
It aims to help young students to find and explore their musical talents.
‘I'm delighted that the children’s hard work has been recognised,’ said Tim Wright, the head of the Guernsey Music Service, when told about the nomination.
The Guernsey Music Centre helps all students to develop musical ability early on, along with equipping them with lifelong skills.
‘The 68 students who went to Biberach were between 14 and 18 years old,’ said Tim.
They played a series of concerts in the town, which is linked to Guernsey through islanders at the civilian war camp there in World War II.
‘The exchange with the young people in Biberach was strengthened at a joint concert evening of the two music schools,’ said Helga.
She was particularly impressed with the confidence and teamwork displayed by the Guernsey musicians.
‘This visit will strengthen the long-established friendship between Guernsey and Biberach for the future.'
