Pride of Guernsey: Karen Blanchford
KAREN BLANCHFORD has been nominated for the Diversity and Inclusion award, sponsored by Insurance Corporation.
In April 2015, Karen was appointed as the first ever executive director of the of the Guernsey Disability Alliance.
Karen’s nominator, who has asked to remain anonymous said: ‘Karen was the restless engine behind the Guernsey Disability Alliance’s journey to leading to historic acceptance and passing by the States of Guernsey of the prevention of discrimination legislation on the grounds of race, disability, career status, religion or belief and sexual orientation.’
Karen has been involved in many diversity initiatives and campaigns, such as, We All Matter, Eh?, Purple Tuesday, and the Access For All campaign.
Her nominator said: ‘Without Karen’s selfless, compassionate and tenacious leadership, Guernsey would not have recognised the importance of diversity and inclusion in the way it has, enshrining discrimination legislation in law that protects the human rights of so many more in our community.’
