Sue has been the Summerland Nursing Home’s matron since 2019 and has been nursing since 1977.

‘Sue is always looking out for other people before herself. If she notices someone struggling then she will be there to do all she can to help that person,’ said her nominator, Angela Truffitt.

‘She has helped a lot of people enjoy the last years of their lives. She works closely with the families of residents to make sure the best care is given to the residents and to make sure the support is there for their families. Her staff have got someone with a lot of experience that they can turn to when they are struggling.

‘She knows the impact a simple gesture can have on someone’s day and also having met so many different people in her life she can see that even if someone is having a bad day just making them a cup of tea or something simple can

help bring some light to their day.

‘She deserves this nomination because she has always worked so hard and given 130% to everything she does. She deserves the recognition that her hard work has all meant something. She is the hardest working person I have ever known.’

Sue said: ‘From my point of view it’s seeing people we care for that they’re happy in their environment, because nobody wants to be in a home.

‘You give a lot of yourself to the job, it becomes part of your life.’
