‘My husband deserves this award for not only being a great dad and step-dad to our children, but he’s had a lot of these last eight years to deal with as I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015,’ said his nominator, Elia Shaw.

‘Unfortunately last year I was diagnosed with metastatic secondary breast cancer. He has been our rock as I’m currently unable to work so he is providing and doing the best he can in such difficult circumstances.

‘He’s working hard, trying to do everything. He doesn’t know how to take it in but keeps smiling and carrying on, keeps doing what a dad and husband does.

‘He does extra work to make sure the children don’t miss out on opportunities like sports trips and everything. I know he’s struggling but he’s putting on a brave smile.

‘My children are very lucky to have him as their dad and I’m lucky to have him stand by me and help the children whilst having to deal with my diagnosis.

‘My youngest is 10 and she only knows Mummy has cancer and my husband has been amazing dealing with her emotions.

‘He definitely deserves to be nominated for best dad of the year and more.’
