Meg and Angela set up Befrienders through their church some years ago. Befrienders is a group organisation for the island’s older residents, which organises social events such as tea parties for them. They coordinate lifts, catering, invitations, and entertainment, as well as recruiting volunteers to help them with the events. As well as this Meg and Angela visit different members of their community every day, taking them on trips.

‘They are amazing. The job they do is amazing,' said Meg and Angela’s nominator, Alex Contreras.

‘They look after many members of the elderly community.

‘Meg always says – God has given me energy so I will use it until it is depleted.

‘Both Angela and Meg seem to use their energy for the good of others around them.

‘They totally deserve this award.’
