Pride of Guernsey: Jacques Isabelle
JACQUES ISABELLE has been nominated for the Pride of Guernsey Overcoming Adversity award.
Former Guernsey footballer Jacques was diagnosed with leukaemia back in January 2022, a type that does not have a cure.
But this has not stopped him from continuing to achieve.
‘He’s currently away cycling the length of Britain, from bottom to top,’ said Tony Curr, his nominator, who said he was amazed at Jacques’ bright energy and positive attitude.
‘He still needs ongoing treatment to monitor the blood disease but he’s very much in the healthy zone despite that.'
Jacques was only 35 years old when he was diagnosed. The news came as a great shock to everyone.
‘I just think he approached it super positively and did all he could in the best way,’ said Tony.
‘When you’re fit and healthy you certainly don’t expect a cancer diagnosis so young,’ said Jacques.
Jacques is now 19 months into his recovery and during this time he has helped raise £40,000 for charity, cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats.
‘I’m honoured – it’s a great award to be considered for,’ said Jacques when he heard about his nomination.
Since his diagnosis Jacques seeks to focus on the positive changes to his life.
