Pride of Guernsey: St John Ambulance crew
THE St John Ambulance crew has been nominated for the Emergency Hero of the Year award, sponsored by MSG.
‘They help people who are not well or injured,’ said one of their nominators, Thea Thomas, who appreciates all the work the ambulance crew does for the island and feels happy that the St John team is always there to help everyone. ‘They should be nominated for their hard work.’
‘The St John crew is always there for everyone on the island, always giving 110% to everyone they help,’ said another nominator, who wanted to be anonymous.
The St John Ambulance and Rescue Service has been in service on the island since 1936, responding to almost 10,000 emergency cases and non-emergency transfers a year.
The values of the service are caring, honesty, compassion and excellence.
‘Like all ambulance services our crews are on duty 24/7 365 days a year,’ said a spokesman from St John Ambulance.
A close knit and supportive team, they provide help and comfort when dealing with difficult cases.
‘We are honoured to have been nominated in the Emergency Hero category of the Pride of Guernsey awards for a second time, which was really unexpected,' he added.
‘A lot of people say we do this job because we want to make a difference. No one does this job for recognition but the kind words we receive from patients, relatives and the public are really appreciated.’
