What are you driving at the moment?

1968 Lotus Elan +2 - because my 'modern' car has broken down.

What was your best car and why?

Probably this one – although I had a V8 MGB GT for a while, which sounded fantastic but wasn't as much fun to drive, plus there was no room for my daughter in the back.

Do you consider yourself to be a good driver?

Yes. Don't we all?

Who keeps your car clean?

I do – but not obsessively. I wash and chamois the Lotus regularly. My day-to-day car gets a quick rub down with a wet sponge, if it's lucky.

What do you keep in your glovebox?

Nothing – apart from the handbook. I do have a selection of spares in the boot, though, and a fire extinguisher under the seat.

What frustrates you on the roads?

Sunday drivers - pottering along at 20-25 in a 35 zone, oblivious to the queue of traffic behind them. And people who drive around with their mirrors folded.

Do you have a favourite soundtrack to play while you drive?

The engine. The radio in this car is a 1960s Blaupunkt, which means it's not exactly hi-fi – also I like to listen out for any strange noises, which might mean something is about to fall off/has fallen off already.

What would be your dream car and why?

Probably a Lamborghini Miura – in acid green, preferably.

If you could take your car on a dream journey where would it be?

I would like to do some of the Alpine passes one day – Stelvio etc.

What would make driving a more pleasant experience for you?

Better weather.
