'I HAVE two classic cars, one of which is a 1969 Lotus Elan Plus 2. I originally bought the car in England and it has had a lot of work done on it to bring it up to its current high specification.

'I like it because of the link with Formula 1.
'At the time it was built, Lotus were winning F1 World Championships with Jim Clarke and Jochen Rindt and it is very much a racing car dreamed up by Lotus for the road. The Elan has also been described by many modern designers as their inspiration for current sports cars and is regularly polled as one of the top five best ever sports cars. I have also "bonded" with the car as we have shared many "experiences" together – including losing a wheel.'
1. What are you driving at the moment?
Lotus Elan Plus 2.
2. What was your best car and why?
Peugeot 206 GTi – almost as good handling as in the Elan, fast and typically French looks.
3. Do you consider yourself to be a good driver?
Yes, but you can never let up on being vigilant.
4. Who keeps your car clean?
My sons.
5. What do you keep in your glovebox?
Actually, in the Lotus, it's some Dunhill driving gloves. They look nice and are needed as the steering wheel is quite slippery.
6. What frustrates you on the roads?
Lack of awareness between drivers and other road users. I have to say that most drivers do not respect cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders etc. as much as they should.
7. Do you have a favourite soundtrack to play while you drive?
A 1960s Lotus twin cam at 7,000rpm makes quite a good soundtrack... and you wouldn't hear the stereo anyway.
8. What would be your dream car and why?
Ferrari Dino as it combines probably the best-looking Ferrari body with a really good handling chassis.
9. If you could take your car on a dream journey, where would it be?
The south of France/Italian riviera would be the natural setting for a Dino.
10. What would make driving a more pleasant experience for you?
A small racing circuit in Guernsey which I could use for track days and so avoid the cost/time of travelling to the UK or France.
