Perfect i10

SMALL most definitely does not equate basic in this fabulous little package. At a time when many car manufacturers are ditching their small cars, Hyundai has introduced this new version of the i10. Waiting in the showroom of Barras Car Centre to pick it up, I was hoping that it would be the stunning white car with the black roof – and so it proved to be.

It’s a real looker, a bit of a head turner in fact. The 16in. alloy wheels, black glossy front grille and rear privacy glass all add to its stylish good looks. As the premium car in the range, you’ll also get a heated front seat and heated steering wheel. Not bad for a little car.

I particularly loved the honeycomb finish on the brushed silver dashboard and highlighted on the exterior of the car, too. Space-wise it doesn’t lack. With the addition of a third central seat belt in the rear, it’ll fit up to three people – leg room is pretty decent, too. There are cup holders and door pockets and a glove compartment for all those bits and pieces we accumulate. Headroom seems pretty decent, too, and with the Premium, you get an upgraded interior package.

There’s a 8in. touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, rear view camera, Bluetooth and the option on the Premium for the tech pack, which includes 8in. touchscreen navigation, Bluelink, intelligent speed limit warning and wireless phone charging pad.

I loved the simplicity of the heater and fan – a couple of dials to adjust temperature and speed. You don’t need anything else.

The drive was one of the smoothest I’ve experienced in a small car. The base is 40mm wider than the previous i10, which means the tyres are 40mm further apart, resulting in a smoother ride. Steering is delightfully light and cornering is a breeze. The car is easy to navigate around our roads but would be equally as good on the motorway.

A friend of mine in the UK has just purchased her second i10 and that to me is as good a testament as any to its appeal.
