Alderney is easing free from the blight of plastics

ALDERNEY has been confirmed as the second plastic-free community by Surfers Against Sewage.

The UK charity has been operating an initiative to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics around the country in which Penzance was named the first Plastic-Free Coastline.

The Alderney project was organised by the Alderney Wildlife Trust, which worked with a number of local people and businesses to reduce excess plastic.

Claire Thorpe, people and wildlife officer for the trust, pictured, said: ‘We are so proud of the community in Alderney for getting behind this project to work to reduce, and one day hopefully eliminate, single-use plastics.’
